Why Do South Asian Brides Wear Red On Their Wedding Day?
Have you ever wondered why an Indian bride traditionally wears red on her wedding day? Why is this specific color considered so auspicious? If you’re curious and would like to learn more, read on!
According to @bollywoodshaadis, “the color red is commonly associated with love and passion. In Indian context, red is also connected to the rising sun.” Additionally, “according to astrology, the planet in charge of marriages, Mars, is red in color. Therefore, Hindu brides are asked to wear red during the wedding proceedings since it stands for prosperity and fertility.”
This applies not only to Hindu brides, but also Sikh brides, as well as many Pakistani and Muslim brides! However, in recent years, more and more brides are opting for less traditional colors – pinks, creams, teals, and greens, among others – but they are all equally beautiful! What do you think about wearing the color red? Too traditional, or a beautiful nod to our culture?
