Reception - DJ versus Live Band/Musician

When it comes to your reception, you must decide on the setting you’re going for. Are you looking for a more intimate setting with a smaller group or are you looking for an unforgettable night that is filled

with drinks, sing-alongs, and endless dance moves? You’ve probably spent some time figuring that out and meticulously planning out each detail. What will you serve for food? Open bar or cash bar? One element to consider is whether you want a DJ or a live band/musician. Both provide their own set of pros and cons, it’s just up to you and your partner to determine which is a better fit for your wedding day.

By deciding to go for a DJ, you’ll have access to a wider variety of music. Before your wedding, you and your partner will likely come up with a list of “must play” songs. This will give the DJ an idea of what music you're looking for during your day. Additionally, your

guests will be able to request almost anything and everything. From Disco to Country to Party Hits and Bollywood, you and your guests will be able to dance and party to anything. Another advantage is that the music will be nonstop. You won’t have to worry about when the band is taking a break in between set lists, which will result in nonstop dancing.

On the contrary, if you opt for a live band or musician, you’ll want to determine what kind of band is the best

fit for your reception. A string quartet is a great fit for a more intimate, sit-down dinner, whereas a cover band will definitely encourage your guests to sing along and dance. With a cover band, you and your partner will discuss with them a pre-determined set list, as requests from guests may or may not be on the table.

Whether you decide to go with a DJ or a live band, your guests are bound to have a good time. Your decision should be up to what you feel is best for what you and your partner want.
